The Defense and Security series is intended for executives, engineers and natural scientists who are engaged in the planning, development, testing and assessment of modern weapon systems. The courses deal with internal transition, external and terminal ballistics of guns and missile weapons as well as analytical methods and numerical simulation. New developments are considered (e.g. guided ammunition, intelligent target searching and tracking systems, submunitions, equipment with artificial intelligence) including their components (such as sensors, data processing devices, fuses). Other courses are concerned with special weapons, system aspects, hit probability and questions of vulnerability; also chemical energy carriers and materials for applications concerning ammunition technology as well as quality assurance and environmental protection in defence technology are treated. The courses are usually held every other year. In general they require basic knowledge of the special field in question. If relevant, the course will include visits to nearby research facilities.
