Haifa, Israel's third largest city and northern capital, is situated in a broad natural bay between the Mediterranean Sea and the Carmel mountain range. The city's terraced landscape offers a rich variety of breathtaking panoramas. Haifa's new Bahai Gardens are considered one of the wonders of the world. Haifa is an excellent starting point for visiting tourist attractions such as Nazareth (40km), Sea of Galilee (60km) and Caesarea (40km). Jerusalem is only 150km away. The Technion Campus (www.technion.ac.il)
The Technion campus extends over a 300-acre area on the pine-covered upper north eastern slopes of Mount Carmel, in a setting of great scenic beauty. Allocated by the Government of Israel in 1953, the campus ranges over 100 buildings and is called Technion City. The original woodland has been preserved, in addition to new cultivated trees and greenery. Emphasis has been placed on gardens and pleasant landscaping, giving the campus all the characteristics of a park. The Technion's old original campus is located in Hadar HaCarmel and presently houses the Technoda, Israel's National Museum of Science, Planning and Technology. The building s old, and unique in its architectural design. It constitutes a monument to the beginning of higher education institutes in Israel.
