Symposium and Industry Focus Day

Royal Military Academy

Brussels, Belgium

16-18 October, 2013

The event

The LWAG 2013 Symposium and Industry Focus Day will take place at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium. This event is intended for all parties working in the field of lightweight armour for defence and security applications. Its main goal is to improve the collaboration in this particular field between industry, academia and research institutes, and as such this event is not only there for the dissemination of scientific work (as regular scientific conferences) but also, and maybe even more importantly, for the identification of possible collaborations between these different parties.

For the first time in the history of the LWAG workshops and symposia, this event will also specifically aim at the possible industrial participants with an Industry Focus Day. The idea of this one-day event is to help industrial attendees to get an overview of the latest evolutions concerning testing, research and requirements concerning light-weight armour, by inviting key-note speakers on specific topics (user requirements, funding opportunities, overview of the Belgian defence industry,…) and by organizing panel discussions and adapted networking sessions.

The two-day symposium will follow the traditional format of scientific presentations (keynote and regular). Symposium presentations must be original unpublished research related to experimental, numerical or theoretical analyses of armour materials or systems exposed to ballistic and/or blast threats. In extenso, the symposium will also accept abstracts in the field of system evaluation (vulnerability, survivability) and associated injury and damage criteria.

People interested in presenting their work at the LWAG symposium are invited to submit their full-page abstract before July 8, 2013. If required, additional poster sessions will be organized. A book of abstracts will be published in printed form and the full proceedings will be delivered in digital form. These will be made available to all registered participants to the symposium. We are currently also exploring the possibilities to publish a selection of papers in a peer-reviewed journal.

Details on sponsoring and publicity opportunities will be made available to industrial parties and research institutes upon request.

Although the Industry Focus Day and the Symposium will be organized as and integrated into one single event, adapted fees will be available to attend either the Industry Focus Day or the Symposium.
